Before enrolling at the university,
immigration policy requires an international student to
process an
I-20 form to apply for a student visa. Not
processing an I-20 will prevent a student from enrolling at
any university in the United States . The requirements one
must meet to obtain an I-20 are the following:
• A copy of a valid passport. (Passport must be valid for at
least 12 months.)
• An original bank statement with a minimum balance of
$7,000 in the account to cover study and living expenses.
• A notarized Affidavit form (a letter affirming financial
support).
• If this is the first time processing an I-20, you must pay
a $200 fee by credit card at the following web site
www.fmjfee.com or you can mail a check or money order by
using form
I-901.
After obtaining the I-20 form, a $131 dollar fee must be
paid for the student VISA only if this is the first time you
are applying for one. It is recommended that you pay for the
VISA before calling the consulate to set up an appointment.
This payment must be made in U.S. dollars to Banamex.
• An appointment is made at the consulate nearest you by
calling the following NON –toll free number:
01-900-849-4949.
• To pay for the call by credit card please call 01 (477)
788-7070.
• For more information online see the following page:
• Attend the appointment with the following documents:
• Banamex payment receipt of student VISA.
• A filled out VISA application (I-20 with the receipt).
• Valid Identification (Passport or Laser Visa).
• Financial support documentation.
• Proof of residency.
• Statement of charges from UTB/TSC.
• A 5x5 cm. photograph with a white background and the face
covering 75% of the area.
After obtaining the student Visa you must go to the nearest
port of entry of the United States and process form I-94.
There will be a $6.00 charge of which it is recommend that
you bring the exact amount. The I-20 form will also be
stamped. Both documents will go inside your passport. If
prior to this you had an I-20 or an I-94, the immigration
officer will collect the expired forms. In case they do not,
you must hand them over to the university.
Form I-20 must be processed at the port of entry before the
first class day. By not processing your I-20 you may risk
losing your passport when attempting to enter the U.S. as a
student.
It is of extreme importance that after you obtain the I-94
and the stamped I-20 you notify the Language Institute so it
can have a copy of your forms and update the information on
the immigration SEVIS system.
If it is not updated on the
system, you may encounter difficulties upon entering the
United States.
